Differential diagnosis of neuropathies in children and adolescents

A broader differential-diagnosis guideline that explicitly mentions HSAN IV / CIPA.

Scope & limitations

The registry marks the guideline as expired and under revision. The archived 32-page short version is readable and mentions HSAN IV / CIPA on page 23; the old URL still returns an error. Archive access does not restore the guideline’s validity. The guideline itself is about the differential diagnosis of neuropathies in children and adolescents; CIPA appears only as one passage within it, so this is not a guideline specific to this condition. Neither NTRK1 nor SCN9A appears in either version. The archived 49-page long version (Langfassung) was also readable at this review and mentions HSAN IV / CIPA on page 30.

About these terms

HSAN IV
Where a resource says HSAN IV, it usually means CIPA. MedlinePlus Genetics states that CIPA “is also known as hereditary sensory and autonomic neuropathy type IV”, lists HSAN type IV and HSAN4 as alternative names, and identifies NTRK1 as the gene involved.Based on: MedlinePlus Genetics, U.S. National Library of Medicine

Title, version & context

Index title
Differential diagnosis of neuropathies in children and adolescents
Version & date
AWMF 022-027, S2k, version 2.0, dated July 1, 2021; validity ended June 30, 2026. The registry marks it as under revision. One internal inconsistency is recorded here: the last page of the PDF gives Versionsnummer 2.1, which differs from the 2.0 shown on the cover and in the registry. This site follows the registry and the cover (2.0) and records the difference without deciding which of them is correct.
